The Opportunity
The Gender Point is an initiative that addresses the economic gender disparity in the nation while creating long-term strategies for evidence-based action, funding, and policy priorities. Built in partnership between the Women’s Funding Network and the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, the initiative provides on-demand data reports that equip US women’s funds and foundations with research to leverage and enhance policy and funding priorities across the nation. Research topics include employment & earnings, health & well-being and political participation, and reports demonstrate policy trends from state to federal levels. The key objective for the Gender Point brand was to convey a feeling of energy and academic authority, while offering a dynamic and eye-catching visual experience that would not rely on photography or other representative illustrations that might limit inclusivity.
The Approach
We developed a punctuated logotype that would visually “close the gap” of its accompanying open circle. To offer versatility for reports, data visualizations, and a growing resource ecosystem, we built out a responsive logo and brand system with a palette of bright, contrasting colors. A series of geometric shape formations work on their own as iconography for individual research topics, or patch together in a colorful tapestry to represent diverse demographics and data categories.
