The Opportunity
The Women's Funding Network wanted to create a brand for their upcoming 'Feminist Funded' conference that created a sense of energy and excitement — positioning it as a can't-be-missed event to capture the interest of potential speakers, sponsor, and attendees. They also wanted to honor the history and opportunities of the conference location — Washington, DC — in a vibrant but elevated manner, appealing to a wider, global audience.
The Approach
Our creative approach drew inspiration from the history of the women's rights movement in the U.S. Referencing the lettering on the signs used in the women's suffrage rallies of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, we used bold, condensed typography — visually 'standing tall' — on a vivid color palette to create impact with high contrast color blocking. The event's key visuals were influenced by the halftone, mixed media styles from feminist 'zines of the 1980s and 90s, featuring a silhouetted heroic figure expressing pride, hope, and power.
We scaled the new brand system across both digital and experiential touchpoints: sponsorship and speaker pitch decks, conference swag, on-premise banners and signage, step and repeats, email marketing assets, and social media posts. Working with the conference committee, we built a custom website for the event, complete with conference details, schedule, speaker information, and a media kit. The buzz surrounding the event was a success and lead to 100% registration fulfillment well before the closing date.
