Zabara Foundation needed a new brand that communicated its mission to advance the science of medicine by investing in groundbreaking research and technologies that lead to healthier lives. The Foundation's namesake, neurologist Dr. Jacob Zabara, was captivated by Descartes’ 1644 Principles of Philosophy and his concept of the separation between mind and brain. Drawing from Dr. Zabara's inspiration, we sought to anchor the brand with a 'Z' mark formed by two cone-shapes, representing the pineal gland, which Descartes believed to be the intersection between mind and brain.
Drawing further inspiration from historic medical diagrams, we scaled up the Z mark and outlined it with thin, dashed and solid strokes to illustrate direction, connection, integration, and process. High contrast colors, zoomed-in detail shots, and a sleek serif headline typeface give the brand an enigmatic and scholarly feel, appealing to potential funders seeking the latest in medical innovation.
